QX-16 ROM Dumping
I recently picked up a QX-16HD system and last weekend I got around to opening it up to dump the various ROMS inside. There are already existing ROM dumps for the QX-10 systems, but I don’t believe ther have been any dumps published for the QX-16 before.
There are basically 3 ROMS that needed to be dumped:
- The chargen rom from the ICRT board.
- The z80 IPL ROM that runs on boot.
- The BIOS rom used by DOS.
The first one is fairly easy to access, you just need go unscrew the RF shielding from the ICRT board. The other two are inconveniently located under the graphics boards. This required unscrewung both boards and their shielding and removing them in order to be able to access the IPL and BIOS roms.
I also have a dual floppy version of the QX-16 that has a different IPL and BIOS version that I plan to dump in the future at some point.
